Privacy Policy

Finwise is a free personal finance tool that uses AI to give you insights about your monthly budget. We try to keep things simple and respect your privacy. This page explains what data we collect, how we use it, and what your rights are.

The short version

• We do not require an account to use Finwise.
• The income and expense numbers you enter are sent to our AI provider (Anthropic) to generate your analysis. They are not stored on our servers.
• If you sign up for our newsletter, we store your email address with our email provider (MailerLite) so we can send you updates.
• If you upgrade to Pro, payment is handled by Stripe — we never see or store your card details.
• We use localStorage in your browser to remember your usage count and Pro status. This data stays on your device.

What we collect and why

Financial inputs. The income and expense numbers you type into Finwise are sent to Anthropic's Claude API to generate your personalized analysis. We do not save these numbers in any database. They exist only for the duration of your request.

Email address (optional). If you choose to subscribe to the Finwise newsletter, your email address is sent to MailerLite, our email service provider. MailerLite stores your email so we can send you occasional personal finance tips and product updates. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in the footer of any email we send.

Payment information (optional). If you upgrade to Finwise Pro, your payment is processed by Stripe. Stripe collects the information needed to process your payment (card number, billing address, etc.). We do not see or store this information ourselves. Stripe's privacy policy is available at stripe.com/privacy.

Browser storage. Finwise uses your browser's localStorage to remember (1) how many free analyses you've used and (2) whether you have an active Pro subscription. This data stays on your device — we cannot read it from our servers. Clearing your browser data will reset both of these.

Server logs. Like most websites, our hosting provider (Netlify) automatically records basic information when you visit Finwise — IP address, browser type, and the time of your visit. This is used for security and abuse prevention, not for tracking individual users.

Third-party services we use

• Anthropic (Claude API) — generates your AI financial analysis. Privacy policy
• MailerLite — stores newsletter subscriber emails. Privacy policy
• Stripe — processes Pro subscription payments. Privacy policy
• Netlify — hosts the Finwise website and serverless functions. Privacy policy

Cookies and tracking

Finwise does not use advertising cookies, third-party analytics trackers, or behavioral profiling. We use browser localStorage as described above, which is technically required for the freemium feature to work.

Children's privacy

Finwise is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.

Your rights

You have the right to:

• Unsubscribe from the newsletter at any time (link in every email).
• Request that we delete your email address from our newsletter list. Email us using the contact below.
• Cancel a Pro subscription at any time through Stripe's customer portal or by contacting us.
• Clear your browser's localStorage to reset your local Finwise data.

Changes to this policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. When we do, we'll update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. For significant changes, we'll do our best to notify newsletter subscribers by email.
